Award Winners 2026

Annually in May, Whitworth Town Council bestow two awards to the Whitworth Community – The Mayor of Whitworth’s Young Achiever Award, which is presented to under 18-year-olds, and The Dr Alan Morris Award, which is presented for services to the community. Nominations can be made at any time during the year, please contact the Town Clerk for more details.

 

THE MAYOR OF WHITWORTH‘S YOUNG ACHIEVER AWARD

Freddie Fitton was nominated by then Councillor Gareth Baron for his dedication to Muay Thai Boxing, he was even the flagbearer for Valley Thai’s recent competition success in Thailand. Last year, he returned home with a silver medal and this year brought home both a silver and a gold medal. Freddie’s achievements don’t stop there. Alongside his mum Kirsten, he also took part in a sponsored swim to raise money for Cancer Research, raising an amazing £850.00.

Harry Henshaw was nominated by Whitworth Community High School headteacher Andrew Oliver for his outstanding leadership skills, determination and commitment for the Youth Enterprise Challenge competition.  He considered that Harry’s resilience, work ethic and positive attitude meant that he played a pivotal role in raising over £2,000 for Rossendale Hospice.

Alice Kowal was nominated by Guide leader Elaine Dyson in recognition of being the first Guide in Whitworth to receive the prestigious Guiding Gold Award as well as her volunteering commitments, superb vocal ability and her wonderfully kind nature.

THE DR ALAN MORRIS AWARD

Elaine Dyson was nominated for her many years of dedication to Girlguiding in Whitworth. Elaine has given over 40 years of service to Girlguiding and her dedication to developing the skills of girls and young women in Whitworth is second to none.

Jackie Phillips was nominated for her many years of dedication to Scouting in Whitworth. Jackie has been Akele/GSL at 41st Rochdale (Whitworth) Scouts for too many years to mention. She has helped to teach and upskill a multitude of local Whitworth boys, all of whom can lay testament to her warm and compassionate nature.
