Remembrance Sunday Commemorations - Sunday 9th November
Whitworth residents’ young and old will gather to remember those lost and injured during times of conflict. Whitworth's Remembrance Sunday commemorations will take place at Whitworth’s cenotaph on Sunday 9th November, honouring those who had passed serving their country. A uniformed parade will march from Tong Lane, along Market Street towards the Memorial Gardens, Facit, led by Whitworth Vale and Healey Band. The parade will commence at 10.20am and the service in the Memorial Gardens will begin at 10.40am, led by Rev’d Laura Brinicombe of St Johns and St Bartholomew’s Churches together with Father Chris McGrane of Our Lady and St Anselm’s. Wreaths will be laid by the Town Mayor, MP, County Councillor, Borough and Town Councillors, representatives from Whitworth schools, Lancashire Constabulary, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, past service personnel and other uniformed organisations such as Brownies and Scouts.
All attendees are welcome to attend the Ashcroft for complimentary refreshments after the service.
The organising commitee for the commemorations are always looking for volunteer road marshals to assist with the road closure for the parade. If you can spare half an hour to help with future processions for both the Rushcart and Remembrance Sunday, then please contact Whitworth Town Council on 01706 852018 (Mon-Fri, 9.30am to 2pm) or email [email protected] .
