On Sunday 26 November 2017, Whitworth’s Christmas Lights will be officially switched on. Members of the public are encouraged to come to the Civic Hall (The Riverside), for the proceedings to start at 6pm outside in the carpark. Following a presentation to the Chrsitmas badge design winners on the outdoor stage and the arrival of Father Christmas the lights will officially be switched on at around 6.15pm on by the Mayor of Whitworth and Mayoress of Whitworth, with the help of the lucky competition winners.
After the switch on the event will head inside where we will be entertained with festive tunes from the Whitworth Valey and Healey Youth Band and the Whitworth Community Choir. Father Christmas will be issuing sweets to the children from his amazing new grotto (grotto provided by local theatre company Proscenium and sweets provided by RRG Toyota Rochdale), 2018 Whitworth calendars will be on sale and ducks will be available to sponsor for the New Year’s Day Duck Race. The Riverside will be serving a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie for a small charge, with kid’s refreshments also available.
Bring along your coloured in baubles too to add to our Christmas tree! You can print off some baubles to colour here or call into the council office at The Riverside to collect one.
The evening is expected to draw to a natural close around 7.00pm. Entry to this event is free, and all are welcome.
