On Sunday 23 April, the Whitworth Tourism and Leisure Committee will present the 2017 St George celebrations. This event has become a staple in the Whitworth diary and is very popular, attracting larger crowds – this year the event is expected to be bigger than ever with another special appearance from a ferocious dragon! At 2pm a procession, lead by the Mayor of Whitworth, ‘St George’, a dragon and the Whitworth Vale and Healey Band, plus representatives of the uniformed organisations, will set off from the corner of Tong Lane and process along Market Street to the Riverside (Civic Hall). Then, at 2.15pm, a Celebration will take place followed by light refreshments.
Everyone is welcome to take part in the procession and attend the service. If you would like to help out by spending a few hours marshalling or are part of a group and would like to take part in the procession or help out, contact Melanie Hearn, Town Clerk on 01706 852018.
