IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO WALK ON JUNE 2ND, WE WILL SIMPLY HOLD OVER YOUR CURRENT ENTRY.

IF THAT DATE DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU, WE WILL OBVIOUSLY RETURN YOUR ENTRY FEE TO YOU.  HERE ARE THE OPTIONS -

 

1. IF YOU LIVE LOCALLY, WE ASK THAT YOU CALL IN WHITWORTH LEISURE CENTRE ON MONDAY 13TH MAY BETWEEN 6.30PM AND 8.30PM; OR TUESDAY 14TH 6-9PM; OR THURSDAY 15TH, 6-9PM.  WE'LL REPAY YOU IN CASH.  ONE PERSON PER FAMILY/GROUP OF FRIENDS IS FINE.

 

2. IF YOU LIVE FURTHER AFIELD AND GETTING TO WHITWORTH IS A PROBLEM, PLEASE TEXT YOUR NAME(S) TO 07813 810748 AND WE WILL POST YOU OUT A CHEQUE.  DEPENDING ON DEMAND, THIS WILL TAKE A LITTLE LONGER.

 

3. WE HAVE NO CAPACITY TO PAY BY BACS - SORRY.

 

4. IF YOU ARE FEELING CHEESED OFF BUT GENEROUS, YOU ARE WELCOME TO TEXT 07813 810748 AND ASK THAT WE GIVE YOUR ENTRY FEE TO WHITWORTH LEISURE CENTRE.  (MANY OF YOU HAVE TOPPED UP YOUR ENTRY FEE, OR MADE A DONATION ALONGSIDE YOUR ENTRY; WE ABSOLUTELY DO NOT EXPECT YOU TO DONATE MORE).

Tourism and Leisure Committee Meeting

The Tourism and Leisure Committee are a hard working group of volunteers who work so hard for the benefit of Whitworth. Some volunteers are local councillors and others have an interest in helping out our community. They arrange five annual events and raise funds to make Whitworth an even better place than it already is.     Annual Skyline Walk

    This is a challenging walk of approximately 14 miles over varied terrain, starting at Lobden Golf Club between 7.45am and 9am - your choice. It is undertaken entirely at the walker's own risk, and by entering you are accepting that you will stick to the official route. The organisers – Whitworth Sports Council – will provide you with written route instructions; and orange juice/water/plasters if required at every checkpoint; and vehicles may be available to remove you from the moor in the case of emergency. There will also be a certificate and a small hot meal available to you at the finish at Lobden Golf Club. NB Orange juice: can we top up your bottle rather than dish out a cup each time?

    Mayor's Civic Sunday

    This year, Civic Sunday is a Church of England church service that all of Whitworth are welcome to attend. The service is free with complimentary refreshments being served at the back of the church, after the service.

    80th Annivery D Day Afternoon Tea

    An afternoon tea to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D Day. Featuring Whitworth Vale & Healey Band, u3a's highly entertaining ukelele band and the beautiful voices of Whitworth Community Choir. Howard Wilkinson will be taking photographs and Whitworth Museum have kindly agreed to put on an exhibit of memorabilia from the 1940s. Put on your best 1940s fancy dress and come and join us!

    Annual Rushcart Celebrations

    Whitworth is one of only four Rushcart celebrations still taking place regularly in the UK, all of them within close proximity: the others are held in Sowerby Bridge, Littleborough and Saddleworth. Whitworth, however, is the only one to use heather, not rushes.

    Annual New Year's Day Duck Race

    Ready, steady – quack! A staple in the Whitworth calendar is the Annual New Year’s Day Duck Race. Taking place, every year at 1pm on New Year's Day at Cowm Reservoir. For those unfamiliar with the concept, numbered ducks sponsored for a pound are entered into the Duck Race, and those who have sponsored the numbers of the first three ducks (and the last one) over the line get a cash prize. The sponsor of the first duck over the line will win £150, with second and third prizes of £125 and £100 respectively, and £25 for the last duck to waddle in. The Duck Race is organised by Whitworth Town Council’s Tourism and Leisure Committee and all proceeds are ploughed back into tourism and leisure events for the town. Last year the duck race raised over a thousand pounds to be used for the Whitworth community.
